Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy uses a gentle touch, anywhere on the body, that blends with the tissues of the fascia. We listen to where it may be inhibited and the flow of fluid within the Craniosacral System distorted. By tuning into these subtle signs, we can hold a safe space to connect with and restore integrity to the fascia and the central nervous system, releasing deeply held tension within.
Craniosacral Therapy is supportive and nurturing of the body’s own natural healing processes and, by connecting to our embodied self-awareness, offers an empowering way to address the roots of our traumas and how they manifest in our lives and bodies.

What to Expect in a session:
Craniosacral Therapy is performed with you fully clothed and sitting or lying comfortably. I begin by placing my hands lightly on the tops of your feet, tuning into the craniosacral rhythm and then moving to wherever it indicates I should go. You can think of initial sessions as an introduction, as your system gets to know mine. There is a constant communication (spoken and unspoken) between us of awareness and trust. It is my goal to approach with the utmost respect. To listen and respond to what your body wants to say, and to remain within the boundaries that are set.

It can be a deeply relaxing treatment, and you may fall asleep. You might feel things shifting or unwinding in your body. You may experience memories or see images. Or you may experience nothing but an innate sense of calm. Whatever you feel will be what’s right for you in the moment, what your body needs the most. I will hold that space for you, with reverence and validation.

FasciaFascia is the matrix of connective tissue that lies beneath our skin. It encompasses all our individual muscles, organs, bones, blood vessels and nerve fibres. It is what keeps all these parts separate, able to easily move with each other and in the right places. It is also what connects and facilitates communication between these parts throughout the body. It is highly innervated, and recent research has found that the fascial network contains over 250 million nerve endings and pain receptors. When fascia is healthy, it moves and stretches as you do. When it is restricted, it can cause decreased range of motion and potentially pain. Restrictions in the fascia can be caused by many things: scar tissue from injury or surgery, repetitive motion, lack of movement, inflammation and even an unresolved reaction to physical or emotional trauma.

The Craniosacral SystemThe Craniosacral System consists of the bones and membranes that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. We can tune into the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid as it flows through this system from anywhere on the body through the fascia.
-
The Central Nervous SystemThe Central Nervous System regulates everything in the body. It collects information from the sensory nerves throughout the body (the peripheral nervous system), processes it and sends information back and forth from the spinal cord to the brain. How we think, move, feel, our breathing and heart rate as well as our hormones and body temperature are all controlled by the Central Nervous System.
